Class Of 1961

Dear classmates,

I am very happy to announce that my chapbook, Ramadan in Summer, is coming out in January from Finishing Line Press, and is now available for advance sales. To order the book onliine, go directly to

or use the order form below. Shipping date is January 14. Advance sales help determine the initial press run, and the royalty percentage, which goes up with the number of advance sale copies. I plan to donate all royalties to the Oregon Food Bank. Cover art by my spouse and fellow poet, Diane Corson; author photograph by dear friend and fellow poet, the art curator Lucy Cotter, PhD.

Bruce Parker‘s title poem captures it all – sun, heat, thirst, weakness, a sense of ritual observance, a sense of the ineffable, “even if one did not understand the Arabic.” For Parker’s central theme is the ever-present varieties of beauty offered to those who may see. Attuned to such vision, Parker’s speakers acknowledge change and decay; they understand “how everything ends.” Yet they also affirm what is marvelous, in nature, in human company, “there before the symphony begins, / there after the poem’s last sigh.” In its scope and range, in the care evident in each poem’s construction, this little book invites and compels and rewards.

–Lex Runciman, author of Salt Moons

Is this a crass appeal for sales? Sure! Will I make a fortune from this chapbook? Probably not—I just want to get my work into as many hands as possible. Hope you all are thriving, doing the things you love, with the people you love.
